Another idea that has been rumblin round the ol noodle. I watched a documentary about a spore (or fungus) that attacks ants, causing them to climb trees. Once they've reached a sufficient height, the spore grows a LONG horn out of the ant's head, killing the ant and spreading more spores.

I thought the robot equivalent could be caused by nano technology that infects the robot, rearranges it's internal parts, and takes control. Crazy Nano-virus.

I think if the Emperor felt like hittin the opera with Vader this is where they might go. Or maybe they hate opera and would blast it from orbit....poor Alderaan.

Progression

Bit of an exploration here. I started with a rough thumbnail sketch which became the bottom sketch. I was playing around with some variations in PS and thought elements of the second one were kinda interesting. Played around a bit more and ended up with the dark image, which--of course--inevitably led to a zombie scout sniffing out one of the last remaining survivors. Go figure.
